AstraZeneca and Daiichi Sankyo announced that the European Commission has approved Enhertu (trastuzumab deruxtecan) in combination with pertuzumab for the first-line treatment of adult patients with unresectable or metastatic HER2-positive breast cancer. This approval is based on the DESTINY-Breast09 Phase III trial, which demonstrated that the regimen reduced the risk of disease progression or death by 44% compared to standard care (THP), with median progression-free survival exceeding three years versus approximately two years. Following this regulatory milestone, AstraZeneca is obligated to pay Daiichi Sankyo a $100 million milestone payment. The company operates in the global biopharmaceutical industry, focusing on the discovery and commercialization of prescription medicines.
