AstraZeneca announced that its SERENA-4 Phase III trial of Etcamah (camizestrant) combined with palbociclib failed to meet the primary endpoint of statistically significant improvement in progression-free survival for upfront 1st-line advanced ER-positive breast cancer, although a numerical improvement was observed. The global trial enrolled 1,371 adult patients newly diagnosed with Stage IV de novo or recurrent disease who had not received prior systemic treatment for metastatic disease. AstraZeneca stated the outcome sharpens focus on maximizing patient benefit based on SERENA-6 results and reinforces the importance of ESR1 testing. The company remains confident in the long-term potential of Etcamah as it advances broader programs including CAMBRIA-1 and CAMBRIA-2 trials involving approximately 10,000 patients. AstraZeneca is a global biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery, development, and commercialization of prescription medicines in Oncology, Rare Disease, and BioPharmaceuticals.
