Acquires SynPlexity Inc. and signs $32M-$71M exclusive license deal with Elegen to expand gene synthesis capabilities
AZTAAzenta, Inc.
Azenta acquired all outstanding capital stock of SynPlexity, a DNA assembly technology company specializing in large, multiplexed gene libraries for functional screening and drug discovery. The acquisition closed concurrently with the execution of the Stock Purchase Agreement on October 28, 2026. Concurrently, Azenta entered into an exclusive, royalty-free license agreement with Elegen Corp. to access proprietary cell-free DNA manufacturing technology, including patents related to gene synthesis and cell-free cloning. Under the supply arrangement, aggregate capital deployment is expected to range from approximately $32 million to $71 million over five years, contingent on equipment purchases and a potential $25 million option to convert the license to perpetual rights. These strategic investments are intended to enhance Azenta's GENEWIZ gene synthesis capabilities, improve manufacturing scalability, and support regional production expansion. Azenta is a leading provider of life sciences solutions, offering cold-chain sample management and multiomics services for drug development and clinical research.
