Novo Nordisk announced that its ZEUS phase 3 trial for ziltivekimab failed to demonstrate a reduction in major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) versus placebo, with a hazard ratio of 0.99. The study enrolled over 6,300 patients with ASCVD, CKD, and inflammation. While the drug achieved target engagement by reducing IL-6 and hsCRP levels, it did not translate into clinical benefit for MACE risk. Consequently, Novo Nordisk will record a non-cash impairment charge in Q3 2026, though this will not impact its 2026 adjusted operating profit outlook. Two other cardiovascular trials, HERMES and ARTEMIS, are planned to continue with readouts expected in the first half of 2027. Novo Nordisk is a leading global healthcare company focused on developing medicines for diabetes and obesity.
