Azitra, Inc. announced ex vivo human skin study results for its ATR-COSF program, which utilizes a recombinant human filaggrin protein supernatant. The first study demonstrated that multiple applications of a 2% lyophilized supernatant in a hydrogel formulation increased protein penetration and distribution into the stratum granulosum compared to single-dose applications. A second study showed that the supernatant increased skin elasticity in a dose-dependent manner, with a 7.5% w/w concentration providing a 4.4-fold increase and a 0.28% w/w concentration restoring elasticity to levels seen in healthy skin. The company plans to optimize formulations and initiate human studies following these results. Azitra is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing precision dermatology therapies and cosmetic proteins.
