Brazil prosecutor recommends suspending $415M restructuring of Braskem Idesa amid $800M creditor challenge

BAKBraskem SA

Braskem S.A. disclosed that the São Paulo State Public Prosecutor’s Office recommended suspending the financial restructuring of its Mexican subsidiary, Braskem Idesa, which involves US$415 million in financing and a US$71 million capital contribution by Braskem. Creditors challenged the proceeding, arguing it directs funds to foreign creditors at the expense of Brazilian debtors, potentially committing approximately US$800 million. The Prosecutor also recommended appointing a judicial administrator for the parent company's extrajudicial reorganization in Brazil. While the third tranche of funding is pending completion of Braskem Idesa’s U.S. Chapter 11 proceeding, the Company confirmed it received a decision addressing the Prosecutor’s submission but noted it remains unpublished and is evaluating consequences. Braskem S.A. operates in the petrochemical industry, producing plastics and chemicals.
