BHP reports Q1 FY27 copper production of 401 kt, down 19%, with full-year guidance unchanged at 1,650-1,800 kt
BHPBHP Group Ltd
BHP Group reported first-quarter FY27 copper production of 401 kilotonnes, a 19% decline from the prior year period. The decrease was driven by planned lower feed grades and scheduled maintenance at Escondida, severe weather disruptions in Chile, and a conveyor belt failure at Copper South Australia's Carrapateena operation. Despite these operational headwinds, BHP maintained its full-year copper production guidance between 1,650 and 1,800 kilotonnes. Iron ore production rose 4% to 66.5 million tonnes, while steelmaking coal output fell 13%. The company also approved US$0.8 billion in pre-commitment funding for the Escondida New Concentrator and announced an increase to Olympic Dam's mineral resource base. BHP operates as a diversified mining company extracting copper, iron ore, coal, and potash globally.
