MSHA issues imminent danger order at Peabody's North Antelope Rochelle mine, later terminated

BTUPeabody Energy Corp

On July 9, 2026, the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) issued an imminent danger order under Section 107(a) of the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977 to Peabody Powder River Mining, LLC at its North Antelope Rochelle surface mine in Wyoming. The order was triggered by a catch berm filled with material adjacent to an active haul road, posing a risk of falling debris onto vehicle routes. NARM personnel promptly removed miners from the affected area and took corrective actions, leading MSHA to terminate the order later that same day. No injuries resulted from the condition. Peabody Energy Corporation is a major producer of thermal and metallurgical coal.
