South Korea anticipates $120 billion investment in US nuclear reactors under non-binding framework with Cameco
CCJCameco Corp
Cameco Corporation acknowledged a US-Korea Framework for the Deployment of Nuclear Power, anticipating a $120 billion Korean investment to finance Westinghouse reactor technology in the US. The plan contemplates constructing up to eight large nuclear reactors, including six AP1000 and two APR1400 units, on federal sites. This framework builds upon Cameco's October 2025 strategic partnership with Brookfield Asset Management and the US Department of Commerce. While Cameco does not expect any potential Korean equity investment in Westinghouse to affect its ownership interest, the initiative supports the US government’s goal of quadrupling civil nuclear capacity by 2050. The terms are non-binding and subject to definitive agreements, regulatory approvals, and financing arrangements. Cameco is one of the largest global providers of uranium fuel for nuclear power generation.
