FTC and states sue Dollar General alleging FTC Act violations, seek monetary relief

DGDollar General Corp

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), joined by various state attorneys general, filed a lawsuit against Dollar General in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee on October 26, 2026. The plaintiffs allege violations of Section 5(a) of the FTC Act and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, as well as state consumer protection laws. The complaint seeks injunctive relief, civil penalties, and significant monetary judgment. Dollar General stated it intends to vigorously defend against these allegations but warned that an unfavorable outcome could have a material adverse effect on its consolidated financial statements due to potential costs and liabilities. This follows a non-public FTC investigation initiated in early 2026 via a Civil Investigative Demand.
