MDA Space Ltd. has been awarded a $474 million follow-on contract to supply additional MDA AURORA satellites for the Telesat Lightspeed low Earth orbit constellation, increasing its total manufacturing commitment from 198 to 225 satellites. The order includes 69 new satellites and adds 500 MHz of military Ka-band spectrum to replace commercial capacity, supporting both commercial and Canadian defence objectives under the ESCP-P program. MDA Space will also serve as prime contractor for a separate secure UHF and X-band constellation in Medium Earth Orbit, with Telesat acting as subcontractor. The majority of the $474 million increase will be added to backlog in Q3 2026. MDA Space Ltd. is a global leader in space systems, robotics, and satellite manufacturing.
