Methanex Corporation announced it has entered into an agreement to sell substantially all of its New Zealand natural gas contractual entitlements starting in the first quarter of 2027 and continuing through the end of the decade. Due to declining domestic natural gas availability, the company determined that continued operations are not sustainable and will indefinitely idle its New Zealand production facilities during Q1 2027. Methanex does not expect to incur material cash costs from this decision and plans to safely operate the plant over the next several months before idling it for long-term optionality. The company operates in the chemical industry as the world’s largest supplier of methanol.
Methanex reported second quarter 2026 net income of $198 million, a significant increase from a $14 million net loss in the prior quarter, driven by a higher average realized price of $529 per tonne. Adjusted EBITDA reached $577 million. The company announced the indefinite idling of its Titan plant in Trinidad and Tobago, resulting in a $115 million non-cash asset impairment charge and a $12 million restructuring accrual. Methanex also fully repaid its $290 million Term Loan A. Production for the quarter was 2,213,000 tonnes of methanol. Methanex is a chemical company that produces and supplies methanol globally.
Methanex Corporation declared a quarterly cash dividend of US$0.185 per share. The dividend is payable on September 30, 2026, to shareholders of record as of September 16, 2026. Methanex is a global supplier of methanol.
Methanex Corporation announced on June 29, 2026, that it will indefinitely idle its Titan methanol plant in Trinidad and Tobago due to an inability to agree on a new natural gas contract. The facility, which has an 860,000 tonnes per year capacity, will undergo a preservation process to allow for a potential future restart. The Atlas methanol plant, a joint venture in which Methanex holds a 63.1% interest, remains indefinitely idled. Methanex is the world's largest supplier of methanol globally and operates in the methanol production and supply industry.
