Japan’s health ministry approves prefilled syringe presentation of Shingrix for shingles prevention
GLAXFGSK plc
GSK plc announced that Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) approved a prefilled syringe presentation of Shingrix (Recombinant Zoster Vaccine) for the prevention of shingles. The new ready-to-use presentation replaces the previous manual combination of dry antigen and liquid adjuvant vials, simplifying administration for healthcare professionals without changing indications or dosing. Approximately 1.1 million people in Japan develop shingles annually. GSK launched this prefilled syringe format in the US in February 2026 and is rolling it out in Europe throughout 2026. This regulatory approval expands market access and convenience for GSK's leading shingles vaccine in a key Asian market. GSK plc operates as a global biopharmaceutical company focused on vaccines, specialty medicines, and consumer healthcare.
