On July 7, 2026, Theriva Biologics announced that the Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices (AEMPS) authorized the initiation of the VIRAGE2 clinical trial. This Phase IIa, single-arm, open-label study will evaluate the feasibility of administering at least three doses of zabilugene almadenorepvec (VCN-01) every two months in combination with standard-of-care chemotherapy for patients with newly-diagnosed metastatic pancreatic cancer. The trial follows a 112-patient Phase 2b study where two doses of VCN-01 showed improved overall survival and progression-free survival. Results from VIRAGE2 will inform the dosing regimen for a potential future Phase 3 pivotal trial. The company is a biotechnology firm developing therapies for cancer.
