AstraZeneca reported positive high-level results from the global Phase III SAFFRON trial, demonstrating that Tagrisso (osimertinib) plus Orpathys (savolitinib) significantly improved progression-free and overall survival compared to platinum-based chemotherapy in patients with EGFR-mutated non-small cell lung cancer who had progressed on prior Tagrisso treatment. The combination targets MET-driven resistance, a common mechanism of disease progression in this population. These findings reinforce the potential for global regulatory approval and commercialization of the combination therapy, which is already approved in China based on the SACHI trial.
